Above All Things Have Fervent Charity

Verse of the Day, September 16, 2019

1 Peter 4:8 KJV “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”

It is written about so often throughout the scripture that we need to have charity. Paul said it was the greatest of all necessities (1 Corinthians 13:2). In the Old Testament, the ALMIGHTY consistently harped on the children of Israel concerning their requirement to be of a charitable heart (Deuteronomy 15:11).

This is the Most-High’s biggest fuss with the people in power in the earth. They are cruel to the poor, to the fatherless, and to the widow. They have no heart for the less fortunate and are oppressive only.

We have to do better than they; this is why the LORD Jesus said that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you would in no wise get into the kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 5:20).

above all things have fervent charity

The Pharisees did not use much or any charity towards the people. They only desired to rule over the people. However, Peter says ABOVE ALL things, we should have fervent charity among ourselves.

Here is why more and more people are being charitable; it makes us feel good about ourselves, especially when we’re able to help others.

But the silent reason is that charity WILL (shall) COVER the multitude of sins or transgressions! So, what are you still reading this for, go buy someone who can’t afford to pay you back some lunch today (JK unless you truly feel like doing that)!
